The brake caliper clamps like a bracket around a wheel's brake disc and prevents the wheel from turning when you step on the brake. Inside each brake caliper is a pair of metal plates called brake pads. When you press the brake pedal, brake fluid pressurizes the pistons in the caliper, forcing the brake pads against the brake disc and slowing your vehicle.
